ERG International Group strengthens UK supply chain partnership for Ankara–İzmir High-Speed Railway

ERG International Group has reinforced its partnership with the UK manufacturing sector through a major eight-figure rail supply agreement supporting the Ankara–İzmir High-Speed Railway, one of Türkiye’s most important transport infrastructure projects.

Under the agreement, British Steel will supply 36,000 tonnes of rail for installation along the 599 km high-speed corridor connecting Ankara, Türkiye’s capital, with the port city of İzmir. ERG International Group is delivering the project on behalf of the Government of Türkiye as part of the country’s programme to expand and modernise its rail network.

The project will significantly improve connectivity between key economic centres, reduce journey times, and provide a more efficient and sustainable transport alternative for passengers and freight.

This agreement also highlights the strength of collaboration between ERG International Group and the UK’s industrial base. The partnership has been supported by the UK Government, UK Export Finance (UKEF), and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), demonstrating the importance of coordinated export and industrial support in enabling major international infrastructure projects.

The contract has delivered tangible economic benefits within the UK, including the creation of 23 new skilled manufacturing roles and the expansion of rail production capacity at British Steel’s Scunthorpe facility.

Melike Erdem, CEO of ERG International UK, said: “Today marks another major milestone in our long-standing partnership with British Steel. The Ankara–Izmir High-Speed Rail Project is progressing at pace, and this agreement ensures the delivery of high-quality rail products that meet the project’s technical and operational requirements.”

Mohamed Ibrahim, Chief Commercial Officer of ERG International UK, said: “We are proud to deepen our collaboration with the UK supply chain. This contract not only strengthens our technical delivery, but also reinforces the strategic cooperation between ERG, British Steel, UKEF and DBT across major international infrastructure projects.”

Rail deliveries will take place throughout 2026 in accordance with the project construction programme.

The Ankara–İzmir High-Speed Railway forms part of Türkiye’s long-term transport strategy and is expected to play a key role in strengthening national connectivity, supporting economic growth, and enabling more sustainable mobility.

ERG International Group remains committed to working with international partners, governments, and supply chains to deliver infrastructure projects that create long-term economic, industrial, and environmental value.
